Filmmaker testimonials about Sproutflix

Submit Your Film

Share Your Film. Extend Its Impact.

Thank you for your interest in submitting your film to the Sproutflix collection. Every filmmaker has a story worth sharing — and a meaningful film’s journey shouldn’t end when production wraps. The right film keeps changing hearts, opening minds, and sparking conversation for years to come.

Founded in 2009, Sproutflix is a nonprofit dedicated exclusively to films featuring people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We believe these stories do far more than entertain — they challenge stereotypes, celebrate authentic lives, foster inclusion, and help build a more understanding and compassionate society.

“Movies are a machine that generates empathy.”

Roger Ebert

We believe that is cinema’s greatest gift. Every film on Sproutflix helps audiences see beyond labels, recognize our shared humanity, and appreciate the unique gifts every person brings to the world.

By joining the collection, your film reaches audiences actively seeking authentic stories — educators, universities, libraries, disability organizations, employers, community groups, families, self-advocates, and film festivals across North America and beyond. It becomes part of something larger: a growing library of more than 300 films celebrating the lives, talents, and voices of people with I/DD.

As a nonprofit, we are committed to supporting both meaningful films and the filmmakers behind them. Our agreement is non-exclusive, you keep ownership of your film, and you receive 50% of the gross revenue from rentals and purchases. Most importantly, your film keeps doing what it was made to do — move people, spark conversation, and generate empathy.

  • Feature an actor or subject with an intellectual and/or developmental disability (I/DD) — or be created by a filmmaker with an I/DD.
  • We do not accept films in which an actor without an I/DD portrays a character with one.
  • Films of any genre, any length, and any completion year are welcome.
  • Foreign-language films must include English subtitles.
  • By submitting, you grant permission to use selected images and clips for promotion in print and digital materials.
  • Complete and submit the online application.
  • Include a streaming link or downloadable screener for review.
