The Girl With the Tuba

Directed by Esteban Arguello
4.5 MIN / DOCUMENTARY / 2010 / USA

A young woman with autism details how playing a tuba in the streets of Atlanta has helped her define her voice as an activist.

Larkin Taylor Parker is a street musician and neuro-diversity blogger who plays music for spare change in Atlanta’s quirky Lil’Five Points corner. Her senses are extremely sensitive and have made many simple tasks difficult for her. Yet playing the tuba, a large heavy instrument, has taught her how to overcome her fears and inhibitions. She now shares her experiences online where she advocates for equal rights for people with autism and disabilities.
