What is sprout?

sprout is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1979 by Anthony Di Salvo, with the mission to provide innovative programming for people with developmental disabilities.

Our Vacation Program allows participants to grow through challenging and safe travel experiences.

The Make-A-Movie Program, started in 1993, gives people with developmental disabilities the opportunity to act in videos and to see themselves on the big screen at public showings.

The success of the Make-A-Movie program and the inclusion of Sprout's movies in film festivals led to the birth of the annual Sprout Film Festival in 2003. Open to the public and held in New York City, the weekend festival features enjoyable, entertaining and memorable films from around the world.

The Sprout Touring Film Festival presents a unique opportunity for agencies and organizations around the US and the world to bring selections from the Sprout Film Festival library directly to audiences at their own location for conferences, fundraising events and educational and training experiences.

Based in New York City, sprout is an exciting and innovative organization that directly serves over 1800 people with developmental disabilities each year. Through the wide-ranging reach of the Sprout Film Festival, the Sprout Touring Film Festival and Sproutflix, Sprout aims to encourage, enlighten and educate a far larger number of people throughout the world
